2008-09 – Evansville's top returning scorer going into 2009-10...outstanding addition to the squad as a freshman...aggressive player who quickly became a fan favorite...averaged 5.8 points, fifth best on the team, and 4.2 rebounds, fourth best...played center and forward, usually coming off the bench to spell starting center Pieter van Tongeren...totaled 13 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Buffalo Nov. 22 for his first double-double...also scored 13 points against Oakland City, and 10 against Eastern Illinois, Drake and Miami (Ohio)...grabbed 10 rebounds in a Senior Night win over Bradley...shooting totals for the season included 67-for-126 (.532) from the field, including 4-for-9 (.444) from three-point range and 41-for-61 (.672) from the free throw line.

HIGH SCHOOL – Attended Summit Prep in Simi Valley, Cal. for one semester after graduating from St. Catherine’s in 2007...helped lead St. Catherine’s to three straight state championships and a three-year record of 75-5...unanimous first team all-state player as chosen by the WBCA...second team selection on the AP all-state team...Milwaukee Journal Sentinel first team all-area...also made the state finals all-tournament team in his senior year...averaged 20.3 points, 9.7 rebounds as a senior...played for legendary coach Bob Letsch, who has coached 11 state championship teams.

PERSONAL – James W. Haarsma Il...born February 8, 1989 in Racine, Wisconsin...son of Ronald and Cheryl Haarsma...has one older sister, Tiffany...expects to major in one of the science areas...hopes to eventually become a doctor.

WHY EVANSVILLE? “Because it was a great place for me to further my education and make me a better person while getting a chance to play Division 1 basketball.”
