Jeremy Portillo joined the University of Evansville as a Graduate Assistant for Sport Performance in June 2023. He works directly with Men's Basketball, Men's and Women's Throws, and Men's and Women's Golf.
Jeremy started his career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a clinical researcher in the Badger Athletic Performance Laboratory (BAPL), specializing in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction biomechanics. Jeremy's efforts at the BAPL led to an article currently under review for publication.
After his time in Madison, Jeremy started his coaching journey in Louisville, KY. as an Assistant Powerlifting coach at his alma mater, Saint Xavier High School. After coaching at Saint Xavier, Jeremy accepted an opportunity to intern as a Biomechanist at Peak Performance Project (P3) in Atlanta, GA. Here, Jeremy honed his skills in motion capture and force plates by processing MLB and NBA player kinetic and kinematic data.
Following P3, Jeremy spent the next year as a Sport Performance intern at the University of Louisville working with Men's and Women's Basketball, while also serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) for the Health and Sport Sciences department.
As a GTA, Jeremy's primary responsibility was teaching Anatomy and Physiology Lab and assisting with Exercise Physiology Laboratory Methods.
While with Louisville Basketball, Jeremy assisted with Catapult Sports GPS data tracking, strength and conditioning, and led a research project with Adidas Basketball that was published in July 2023.
A recipient of the prestigious Chancellor’s Scholarship, Jeremy received his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in May 2021. He tutored Organic Chemistry and Human Physiology and organized and attended yearly service trips around the United States for a student organization called Students Today, Leaders Forever. He holds the CSCS certification through the NSCA.
