Former University of New Mexico swimmer Aimee Dunavant has been named the new assistant swim coach at the University of Evansville. She will be helping with all aspects of coaching including conducting recruiting campaigns, assisting with team travel, and coordinating team practices.
“I think Aimee is going to do a great job,” said head coach Rickey Perkins. “She is very enthusiastic about coaching and has the ability to do a lot of things to help out the team.”
Dunavant comes to UE after spending the last two years as the head swim coach at Valley High School in Albuquerque, N.M. while also teaching physical education at an elementary school. Dunavant also served as the head coach of the Kirtland Aquatic Club team and supervised three training levels of swimmers.
Dunavant received her bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of New Mexico in 2006. In her final year at New Mexico, Dunavant served as an undergraduate assistant coach and assisted in coaching and recruiting. During her college career, Dunavant was a four-time all-Mountain West selection in the 100 yard and 200 yard butterfly, while turning in four top-eight performances at the MWC Championships in her four years.
"I am very excited to be coming to the University of Evansville." said Dunavant. "The Aces have a great athletic history and I am ecstatic to be able to contribute to the student-athletes' success. Coach Perkins is a great coach with tremendous knowledge and expertise in the sport of swimming."
