Abram Albert

Abram Albert will begin his second season as the assistant Track & Field/Cross Country coach for distance at the University of Evansville during the 2023-24 school year.  In his first year at UE, Albert helped transform the UE middle distance and distance running programs in both cross country and track.

Arriving right at the start of the cross country competition season, Albert helped UE’s distance runners improve greatly throughout the course of the year.  Overall, nine of the 11 returning student-athletes established new personal-best marks on the cross country course in 2022.

The Purple Aces also showed great growth during the course of the season, as all four men who competed in both the season-opening John McNichols Invitational and the season-closing Missouri Valley Conference Championship at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute lowered their 8-K time by at least 28 seconds, while running on the exact same course just six weeks apart.  On the women’s side, Albert also helped Melanie Helder earn honorable mention all-MVC honors in cross country, while posting the fourth-fastest 6-K time on record at UE.

In track, Albert helped UE’s middle distance runners break records and set personal-best marks, as the UE indoor records for both the men’s 600-Meters and 1,000-Meters both fell, while Helder also broke the women’s indoor 800-Meter record.  Albert also helped current rising junior Adam Oulgout set personal-best marks in the indoor mile, as well as the 800- and 1,500-Meter races in outdoor.

Albert came to UE after a very successful coaching stop at Northern York High School in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania.  While working with the Northern York program, Albert helped coach a high school national champion in the mile, and a USA U20 National Champion and Pan American Games silver medalist in the 3,000-meters.  In cross country, he worked with a Footlocker Cross Country Championships runner-up.  He helped student-athletes win eight individual state champion medals, and multiple other state medals as well.

Albert is a 2014 graduate of Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor’s degree in sport management.  He competed on both the track and cross country teams at Messiah.
