University of Evansville head volleyball coach Manolo Concepcion announced the addition of Cheneta Morrison as his new first assistant coach in February of 2015.
"We are thrilled to have Cheneta join our Volleyball family. She is extremely smart and self-driven," Concepcion said. "Cheneta connects well with players and her energy and dynamism are contagious."
"Her background as an All-American Setter and passion as a coach will contribute with our efforts to continue to provide our team with a high level of teaching environment on and off the court," Concepcion added. "Cheneta's arrival will also help expand our recruiting network and connections in the Midwest."
Morrison comes to Evansville after spending the past season as a Graduate Assistant Coach at Virginia Commonwealth University. She will graduate from VCU this spring with a Master's of Education in Sport Leadership. In her time with the Rams, she had an extensive role in the program that included: recruiting visits, practice and individual training sessions, work with video, travel and logistics.
"I am really excited to be here in Evansville, I look forward to learning a lot from Manolo and working with the team," Morrison said. "I have enjoyed working with the girls and am excited for the 2015 season."
Prior to her time at VCU, Morrison had a wealth of experience in the State of Indiana. She served as the head coach and assistant club director with the NUF Volleyball Club in Indianapolis. Her work there spanned from 2010-13 as she assisted athletes during their recruiting process and attended showcases to help players striving to be recruited. She also managed practices and individual lessons.
In 2012-13, Morrison was the head coach at Whiteland Community High School in Whiteland, Ind. Her primary duties at Whiteland consisted of managing practice and tournament schedules while instructing the players and other coaches. She also took great time to develop programs to help the athletes.
Her experience in Indiana also includes a tenure as head coach at Charles A. Tinley Accelerated in Indianapolis from 2011-12.
Morrison had a stellar career in her time at the University of Indianapolis as she earned First Team All-American honors in 2010 before being named to the Second Team a season later. The 2014 recipient of the AVCA Minority Scholarship earned degrees in Human Biology and Criminal Justice from UIndy.
