Salma Gonzalez joined the Purple Aces as a graduate assistant in the spring of 2022 following a successful volleyball career that saw her play for three programs. Gonzalez spent two seasons at Savannah State (2017 and 2018) before transferring to Coppin State for the next two campaigns. Gonzalez utilized her fifth year of eligibility at Campbellsville University in 2021 before moving on to Evansville.
At Campbellsville, she reached 1,000 digs in her career while earning First Team All-Mid South Conference accolades. She was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Week. Prior to that, she played two seasons at Coppin State where she excelled in the classroom and on the floor. Her work in those areas, along with her leadership and community work resulted in her being named the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Woman of the Year. Other awards included the Athletics Female Presidential Award and Dean’s List.
On the floor at CSU, she earned MEAC Player of the Week recognition while leading her team to a program-best 11-1 mark in conference play. Her team was the first in volleyball program history to win the Northern Division.
Gonzalez made the transition to Coppin State after playing her first two seasons at Savannah State. She made history in her time there, becoming the first female to record a triple-double in the programs Division I history. Over the course of her four undergraduate seasons, she accumulated a GPA of 3.8 while earning MEAC Academic awards and Honor Roll recognition all four years. Gonzalez was a member of the Beta Kappa Chi Biology Honor Society and received Department of Natural Sciences Honor Roll accolades for the 2019-20 school year.
A native of Isabela, Puerto Rico, Gonzalez graduated from West Port High School in 2017. She earned Presidential Honors and Athletic honors while graduating in the top five in her class.
