Biography

Major: Exercise Science

2019:
Earned a spot on the MVC All-Tournament Team after registering 17 kills and 7 digs against Illinois State…finished her UE career with 1,469 kills, third in the record books…her season average of 3.83 kills per set ranked fourth in the Valley…was fifth on the team with 237 digs…opened her senior season with 21 kills against Western Illinois…had a streak of 15 matches in a row with at least 10 kills…set the Evansville program record with 39 kills against Tennessee Tech…that total was just one behind the MVC mark of 40…her 39 kills was tied for the 4th-highest in a 5-set match in the NCAA in 2019…followed that up with 35 kills against UT Martin, which was the 4th-highest mark in a 4-set match in the nation in 2019…opened the Valley slate with consecutive 20-kill matches against UNI and Drake…her top MVC match saw her finish with 24 kills in home match versus Drake.

2018: Named to 2018 All-MVC Second Team…earned a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team…MVP of 2018 Leatherneck Invitational…played in 117 sets while starting each match she took part in…finished third in the MVC with 4.21 kills per set…opened the season with at least 22 kills in all three matches at WIU…after recording 28 against Tennessee Tech, she set career mark with 29 at WIU…had 13 or more kills in first 12 matches of the season…tallied 25 kills in 3-2 win over Tennessee State…top MVC tally of 22 kills came against Loyola and Missouri State…finished the season with 25 service aces and had four at Southern Illinois.

2017: Evolved as UE’s top offensive player, seeing time in 110 sets while leading the team with 2.78 kills per set and a total of 306…posted 21 service aces, 180 digs and 37 total blocks…posted 10+ kills in opening three matches of the season and eight of the first nine outings…top tally in the first month was 22 kills against UAB…reset her career high with 27 kills at Southern Illinois, also had five service aces and nine digs in the match…registered 79 attempts in the 9/29 match versus the Salukis…career mark of six kills came against Duquesne…notched five double-doubles in 2017…averaged 16.2 kills per match (3.7/set) in matches where she posted 10 or more digs…season high of four block assists came against Drake.

2016: Played in 112 out of 113 sets as a freshman…was third on the squad with 223 total kills…her 16 service aces was second on the team while her 246 digs was third…posted a career-high 19 kills in home match against Bradley; also notched 18 against Louisiana-Monroe…recorded 30 block assists on the season with five coming at Drake…top dig tally of 19 came at Jacksonville State.

Prior to UE: Originally from Hong Kong, China, Rachel Tam is the current Captain for the Youth & Junior Hong Kong National Team as a 5'9'' Outside Hitter, as well as for St. Catharine's School for Girls.  She played Division 2A in China where her team won the championship of the Kowloon and Hong Kong Island District Schools. She has also represented her country with the Beach Volleyball National Team.

Personal: Daughter of Kwok Shing Tam and Man Yan Chen…has a younger sister…majoring in Exercise Science at UE.
