Joel Zimba, Executive Deputy Athletics Director for External Relations and Men’s Basketball General Manager, joined the University of Evansville in the summer of 2024. As second-in-command, he collaborates with Director of Athletics Ziggy Siegfried to guide the department’s strategic direction and lead external operations.
 
Zimba oversees communications, marketing, fan engagement, creative content, revenue generation, community relations, and ESPN+ production. He also serves as sports administrator for several programs, supporting their development and success.
 
Under his leadership, UE achieved record ticket revenue and welcomed over 100,000 fans. Zimba led efforts to strengthen the Purple Aces brand, expand community engagement, increase revenue, and enhance the student-athlete experience.
 
Zimba also serves as General Manager of the men’s basketball program, guiding roster strategy, NIL initiatives, and external engagement in the evolving landscape of collegiate athletics.
 
Before joining the Purple Aces, Zimba was District Athletic and Activities Director for the Verona Area School District in Wisconsin, overseeing one of the state’s largest programs, supervising 120+ coaches, and supporting over 25 varsity sports and many student clubs.
 
At Valparaiso University, Zimba worked in athletics administration and development, serving as Director of Men’s Basketball and previously as a Graduate Assistant within the program. He also held a role in university advancement, supporting annual giving initiatives.
 
Zimba earned degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Valparaiso University.
 
He and his wife, Krystin, have two sons, Tayden and Beckham.
