One of three Purple Aces in program history to be named MVC Pitcher of the Year, Nick Smith joins the UE coaching staff ahead of the 2026 as the program’s Graduate Assistant.
Smith was an integral member of the Evansville pitching staff from 2021-24, appearing in 52 games with 40 starts in four seasons. Smith was the named the MVC Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore in 2022, winning six games with a 4.35 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 78.2 innings of work. Smith became the first Evansville pitcher since Kyle Freeland 2014 to be named the conference’s top pitcher, earning two MVC Pitcher of the Week awards along the way.
In 2023, Smith was an All-MVC Honorable Mention pick, posting a 5-3 record with a 4.63 ERA while ranking fifth in the MVC in innings pitched with 83.2.
As a senior in 2024, Smith helped Evansville to their first MVC Tournament title since 2006 and the program’s first-ever NCAA Regional title. The starting pitcher in Evansville’s Regional-clinching win over host and #16 national seed East Carolina, Smith pitched in three NCAA Tournament games, including two appearances against eventual national champions Tennessee in the Knoxville Super Regional.
A native of Boonville, Ind., Smith graduated from UE in 2024 with his Bachelor’s in Business Management. He is currently pursuing his Master’s of Science in Leadership.
