Softball Finishes 10-1 In Fall Season

10/4/2007 3:43:01 PM

The University of Evansville softball team had a productive fall season tallying a record of 10-1 in the process.  The Aces took part in three fall tournaments, hosting one and participating in two others at Southern Illinois and Indiana State.

The Aces were led offensively by senior Brittany Herald who belted 14 hits in 34 at bats to hit for a .382 average.  Sophomore Jamie Lindauer hit for a .357 average while tallying 10 hits and boasting a .500 on base percentage.  Junior Lissa Fehlman also hit the ball well batting .353 in 17 at bats.  Three other Aces also tallied a .300 average or better.  In her fall debut, freshman Jennifer Stahlhut hit .321.  Sophomore Krista Price finished with a .314 average and junior Amanda Ockomon batted for a .300 average in the eleven games.

On the mound, senior Jecki Bradley had a stellar fall pitching 31 innings and did not relinquish an earned run in the process.  Bradley had 16 strikeouts and opponents only managed to bat for a .168 average against her.  Junior Ashley Hobbs pitched 22 innings and gave up just one earned run during her appearances.  Hobbs also had 16 strikeouts and finished the fall season with a 0.32 ERA with opponents batting just .133 against her. Sophomore Jennifer McKee also had some work on the mound compiling 16 innings and finishing with a 1.31 ERA.  The Hamilton, Ohio native gave up just three earned runs and only one extra base hit.

"As with any fall season, the biggest benefit is assessing what needs to be done for the Spring season," head coach Gwen Lewis said.  "Versatility is something we look at early to try to determine who can play where.  Not only for the upcoming spring season but for the future as well.  We have a fairly veteran team this year which helped us speed things up in our practices.  We competed very well against some good teams and I feel confident we are going to be very competitive and poised in the Spring.  We have a lot to work on but at the same time there were many pleasant surprises this Fall.  The next few months we will be doing our individuals and fitness training and I believe it is during this time that we make the most progress."

The Aces as a whole batted .274 in the 11 games and finished with a .401 on base percentage.  The pitching staff finished with an overall ERA of 0.39 giving up just four earned runs.
