The radio reach for University of Evansville basketball in 2007-08 has expanded to all three areas of the Tri-State.
WUEV (91.5 FM in Evansville) will serve as the flagship radio station for Aces' basketball, and will be joined by WSJD (100.5 FM in Mt. Carmel, Ill. and Princeton, Ind.) and WNTC (103.9 FM in Madisonville, Ky. and Crofton, Ky.). The addition of those two stations expands coverage from Sullivan, Ind. to Springfield, Tenn. and from Fairfield, Ill. to Jasper, Ind. It's also a global network because fans can hear Aces' basketball games through the internet at
wuev.evansville.edu.
"I am very excited at the addition of WSJD and WNTC to the network," said Mike Crowley, WUEV general manager and play-by-play announcer. "Along with WUEV, these stations will give fans the opportunity to listen to every game regardless of where they may live in the Tri-State. I'm also looking forward to providing the play-by-play of an exciting season that's highlighted by the return of (men's head coach) Marty Simmons to Evansville."
The three-station network will broadcast all UE men's games and 12 UE women's games, and WUEV will air virtually all other UE women's games. In addition, Jason Troop will serve as studio host. He served as play-by-play announcer for the Evansville Otters in 2007, and as studio host for Villanova University basketball for ISP Sports the last two years. UE Hall of Fame basketball player Scott Shreffler will join Crowley as color commentators at the men's games, and Tom Benson, Erik Hemenway and former Aces' basketball player Laura Gaybrick will assist with the women's broadcasts. The first broadcast is Saturday, when the Aces' women's team plays an exhibition game against Oakland City University at 5:00, followed by the men's game against OCU at 7:05.
"We're excited about being a part of the Aces Radio Network, and working with Marty Simmons and (women's head coach) Tricia Cullop this year to promote Aces' basketball," said Kevin Williams, general manager of WSJD and WNTC. "Our goal was to increase the radio coverage area and offer UE fans the opportunity to listen to the games throughout the Tri-State."
The weekly "Marty Simmons Show" will air on the network each Monday from 6-7 p.m. at Turoni's restaurant on Weinbach Ave. at the Lloyd Expressway near the University of Evansville campus. News 25 Sports Director Lance Wilkerson will host the show, in addition to hosting Inside Aces Basketball each Sunday night at 10:35 CST on Channel 25. The entire network will also air the "Aces Sports Report" from 6-7 p.m. CST on Tuesdays. Mike Crowley will host the show, which will feature appearances each week from Coach Cullop and UE Director of Athletics John Stanley.
"We are very pleased to be able to establish the Aces Broadcast Network in order to allow our many fans in the Tri-State region to enjoy Aces basketball," says Stanley. "University of Evansville basketball has traditionally been of interest to many fans in the region and the opportunity to provide radio coverage to more people is something that excites us and hopefully our supporters as well. Our flagship station, WUEV, will continue to do an outstanding job and the expansion of our broadcasts through WSJD and WNTC will serve the Tri-State well."
