The University of Evansville's nine-goal outburst Wednesday at Lipscomb has moved the Aces' men's soccer team all the way up to third nationally in scoring, and UE hopes to keep the offense going Saturday night when the Aces return to Missouri Valley Conference play. Two regular season matches remain for Coach Mike Jacobs' squad--Saturday night at Missouri State and the following Saturday night at home against nationally ranked Creighton on Senior Night.
Now 9-7-0 overall and in fourth place in the seven-team MVC at 2-2, Evansville has scored 40 goals this season. Only Wake Forest (43) and Furman (41) have scored more. Those are the most goals scored by an Evansville team since 1996, when the MVC Tournament championship squad scored 61. Senior forward Cory Elenio (8) and sophomore midfielder Kieran Purcell (6) are both among the nation's leaders in assists. Elenio (5-8-18) is tied for third in the MVC in scoring, and Robby Lynch (5-5-15) leads all MVC freshmen in overall scoring.
Missouri State is sixth in the league at 0-2-2, and 5-9-3 overall. The Aces beat Missouri State last year, 1-0 at UE's Black Beauty Field. A victory Saturday would ensure Evansville of a top five seeding in the State Farm MVC Tournament beginning Nov. 14 at Omaha, Neb.
