SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Cory Elenio's second half goal was the game-winner Saturday night, and as a result, the University of Evansville men's soccer team keeps moving up in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Aces are now 10-7 overall and 3-2 in the MVC following a 2-1 win over Missouri State. Evansville has just one game remaining in the regular season, next Saturday at home against nationally ranked Creighton on Senior Night at Black Beauty Field.
Dustin Awe opened the scoring in the first four minutes to put the Aces up 1-0 before Johannes Demarzi tied it up late in the first half. Elenio's winning goal deflected off a Missouri State defender and into the net in the 68th minute, and the Evansville defense held on to the one-goal lead for the remaining 22 minutes. It was
"It was a tough up and down game, and we came through with a very good performance," said Coach Mike Jacobs. "We've put ourselves in position to finish higher in the conference than in the past, and that's a tribute to our guys." Elenio's sixth goal of the season.
