Aces' Stats
The holiday season is a home portion of the basketball season for the University of Evansville men. The Purple Aces play at home each of the next three Saturdays, beginning Dec. 15 against Hanover College at 7:05 CST at Roberts Stadium. Other home games are Dec. 22 against Norfolk State at 2:05 and Dec. 29 against Indiana State in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both teams, at 7:05. All games will be broadcast by the UE Radio Network.
The Hanover game brings together the two southern Indiana private colleges for the first time since 1938-39. Hanover is an NCAA Division III team and a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Association. The Panthers are 6-2 this season, and have won five of their last six games. Evansville is 3-5, and has won three of its last five after losing all three to begin the season in Marty Simmons' first season as head coach.
Junior Shy Ely has taken over the Aces' scoring lead by averaging more than 15 points per game over the last six games. He and four other players scored between nine and 17 points in Tuesday's 75-67 loss to 9-1 Valparaiso. Freshman center Pieter van Tongeren scored 14 Tuesday for his season high.
