University of Evansville junior guard Jason Holsinger was chosen today as the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Holsinger had a great week on and off the court. First, he earned the Prairie Farms/MVC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week award, based on his previous week's play and his 3.84 grade point average. Then on Saturday he scored a season-high 24 points and made a game-high seven assists in UE's 80-71 win over Norfolk State. Holsinger was 6-for-10 from the field, including 6-for-8 from 3-point range. Two of his 3-pointers helped UE overcome a 56-53 deficit and take a 62-59 lead in the final five minutes. Holsinger's three-pointers last Saturday moved him from ninth place to seventh on UE's list of career three-pointers. Now with 181 threes in his career, Holsinger moved ahead of Craig Snow (176 from 1998-'01) and Kyle Runyan (177 from 1998-'01).
Holsinger goes into Saturday's Missouri Valley Conference opener against Indiana State as Evansville's scoring leader this season with a 13.2 average.
