Two of the nation’s top three-point shooters on the women’s side will be on display Saturday evening at Roberts Stadium, as Ace sharpshooter Courtney Felke will lead the University of Evansville Purple Aces against high-flying Audrey McDonald and the Ball State University Cardinals. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. and Saturday’s game can be heard live in the Tri-State area on the Aces’ Radio Network (91.5 F.M.-WUEV, 100.5 F.M.-WSJD, 103.9 F.M.-WNTC).
Both Felke and McDonald entered the week ranked in the nation’s Top 25 in three-point field goals per game. Felke ranked fourth nationally at 3.4 three-point field goals per game. She added to her total on Thursday night, as she hit five three-pointers en route to a team-high 21 points in UE’s 81-75 loss at Butler, which had not given up five three-point field goals to a single team this season until Felke’s barrage on Thursday night.
McDonald, meanwhile, ranked 25th nationally in three-point field goals per game at 2.8 per contest. On the season, the sophomore sharpshooter for the Cardinals is 20-for-50 from beyond the arc, while averaging 9.1 points per game.
Evansville will bring a 4-4 overall record into Saturday’s contest, while Ball State will counter with a 3-6 mark after advancing on to the Postseason WNIT?last season. Felke currently leads the Purple Aces in scoring at 14.5 points per game, while fellow senior Rebekah Parker is not far behind at 13.1 points per contest. Senior forward Julie DeMuth paces the Ball State attack with 14.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this year, while junior guard Porchia Green also pitches in 11.6 points and 5.0 caroms per contest.
Saturday’s game will be the first part of a UE basketball doubleheader, as the UE men will face Austin Peay at 7 p.m. Saturday’s contest will also be the second annual “Teddy Bear Drop” at UE, as fans who bring a new or gently used teddy bear to the UE-Ball State women’s game will receive a discounted ticket of $2. The bears will be tagged with each person’s name, and at halftime, fans will have a chance to throw the bears on to the court to enter into a drawing for a prize. The UE women’s basketball team will then deliver the teddy bears to the children at Riley Hospital in Newburgh to help spread some holiday cheer.
