The sixth annual "Women’s Hoops For The Cure" will take place this Saturday at Roberts Stadium, as the University of Evansville women’s basketball team will host defending Missouri Valley Conference regular-season champion Southern Illinois at 5:00 p.m. Tickets will be discounted to $2.00, with half of the proceeds going to benefit the Susan G. Komen For The Cure Greater Evansville Affiliate. Tickets are also good for the UE-Missouri State men’s game scheduled to follow at 7:05 p.m., and the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free pink UE hat.
The "Women’s Hoops For The Cure" is a collaborative effort between the UE athletics department, the UE women’s basketball program, and the Greater Evansville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure to try and help raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer in the Tri-State area. The event has raised over $10,000 through the years for the fight against breast cancer.
This year, in addition to half of the ticket proceeds from the game going to benefit Susan G. Komen For The Cure, there will also be a “Chinese raffle” to benefit the Komen Foundation. Fans can purchase tickets for the raffle and then enter their tickets into drawings to win various gift packages. Some of the prizes include packages from such companies as Holiday World, Casino Aztar, Golf Plus, Jameson Inn, Jillian’s, and Biaggi’s Italian Restaurant, and sports items from the Indiana Pacers, UE, and other local and national sports figures. Commemorative t-shirts for the 2008 Hoops For The Cure will also be available for $5.00, and all proceeds from both the “Chinese raffle” and commemorative t-shirt sales will benefit the Komen Foundation.
Tickets are currently on sale in the UE Carson Center Ticket Office during normal business hours. Tickets can also be ordered by phone by calling (812) 488-ACES.
