OMAHA, Neb.-- Creighton scored the first 14 points of the second half at Qwest Center Wednesday night, and that put an end to Evansville's hopes of pulling out its first Missouri Valley Conference victory.
The Bluejays won 77-59 to improve to 11-3 overall and 2-2 in the MVC. Evansville takes a 5-9 overall record and 0-4 MVC record to Normal, Ill. Saturday night for an MVC TV Game of the Week against first place Illinois State (12-3, 4-0).
Evansville was down by only six at halftime, 35-29, thanks to eight points from Jason Holsinger, seven from Pieter van Tongeren, and six from Darin Granger, but it was all Creighton in the second half. The Bluejays hit three three-pointers in the first four minutes of the second half, and CU quickly turned a 35-29 advantage into a 49-29 lead.
"Creighton was more aggressive, and as a result, they took over in the second half," said Coach Marty Simmons. "It was frustrating. We need every guy executing."
Wednesday's win was Creighton's sixth straight over Evansville.
