The Beeler Family Athletics Academic Center was completed in the summer of 2008 and opened to all student-athletes at the beginning of fall classes. A reception was held in the room to thank Brent and Cindi Beeler for their generous gift.
“We wanted to give the University of Evansville a balance between athletics and academics,” said Mr. Beeler. “I think this area will help from a recruiting standpoint and give student-athletes a balance. It will make the relationship between athletics and academics more personal for today’s students.”
The facility is located in Carson Center and features eight desktop work stations and printers to help student-athletes with classwork. The room has seating for up to 24 student-athletes and is equipped with wireless internet access. The lab is linked to the University’s network for student-athletes’ access. The room is monitored between the hours of 8 a.m and 5 p.m. and student-athletes can access the room at any time with the use of their student ID.
“From a student-athlete’s standpoint, the room is a convenience due to the time constraints athletes have,” said Jason Holsinger, a senior for the UE’s men’s basketball team. “It is nice to have a place to come where everything is efficient and accessible.”
“We are very grateful for the generosity of the Beeler family,” said Sarah Solinsky, UE’s associate athletics director and senior woman administrator. “This room is a welcome addition to our program to enhance the student-athlete experience. It will aid in the student-athletes’ pursuit of their academic potential.”
