Elenio's Rookie Year Ends With MLS Cup

11/24/2008 1:17:51 PM

Former University of Evansville standout Cory Elenio has finished his first season at the professional level with a championship. Elenio was part of the Columbus Crew squad that beat the New York Red Bulls 3-1 Sunday to capture the MLS Cup.

Elenio was signed by Columbus after the 2007 collegiate season, and spent the 2008 season with the club. He played a season-high 80 minutes in the Crew's friendly with West Ham United, assisting on the Crew's lone goal and just missing a goal of his own when his shot hit both the post and the crossbar.

Elenio earned all-region and all-Missouri Valley Conference honors in his senior year at the University of Evansville in 2007. He led the Aces in scoring with seven goals and nine assists for 23 points, and ranked among the nation's top 25 in assists.
