When Earlham College’s Tristian Gregory and the University of Evansville’s Trevor Gregory suit up Saturday night for their 7:05 p.m. exhibition basketball game at Roberts Stadium, it won’t be the first time two brothers played against each other. But it may be the first time that two valedictorians from the same family have faced each other.
Tristian was number one in his class at Evansville Harrison High School in 2005, and Trevor followed with the same honor at Harrison in 2006.
“It really is a blessing for my family and me to have my brother come to town and play against me his senior year,” Trevor says. “I'm sure he wouldn't want any other opponent than his little brother to finish out the last year of his career.”
Tristian has become a star player at Earlham, a Division III college in Richmond, Ind. He was the Quakers’ Most Valuable Player last season, and is just four points away from becoming the 25th player in school history to score 1,000 points. Trevor came to Division I UE as a walk-on, and knew he might not get as much playing time as big brother did at a non-scholarship program, but that didn’t matter. “Playing for a DI program is my childhood dream,” Trevor says.
Saturday's game is the final exhibition contest for coach Marty Simmons' Aces prior to their Nov. 15 regular season opener at home against Austin Peay.
