This Week's Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Newsletter

University of Evansville senior women’s basketball player Rebekah Parker (Silver Lake, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley H.S.) has been featured in this week’s Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award newsletter for her work in the community.  Parker has also moved up to third in the fan voting for the prestigious Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, capturing over 14 percent of the popular vote.

Parker is currently showcased in the “Community and Character” section of the weekly Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award newsletter.  She has had a constant presence in the Evansville community over the last four years at UE.  Parker is currently involved in UE’s Elementary School Mentoring program, where each Purple Ace spends at least one hour every other week visiting an assigned elementary school to serve as a role model.  As a Physical Education and Health major, Parker is also currently student-teaching in the Evansville school district, and has taught at both the high school and junior high levels the last two years.

Parker has been involved in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure each of the past four years, while also helping with UE’s “Hoops For The Cure” event as well.  Parker has also assisted with the United Way Family Day, Indiana’s Accelerated Reading Program, the Main Street Trick or Treat, and various Boys and Girls Club and YMCA youth events over the last four years.  She has also traveled to various schools for speaking engagements and to help read to young children through the MVC’s Just Read Program.

Parker currently ranks third in fan voting for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, having received over 14 percent of the popular vote.  Sarah Elliott of Kentucky currently leads the 10-person race, having received 22 percent of the vote.  Fan voting is currently open from now until March 21, and will be a major deciding factor in who wins the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, which is presented annually to the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete of the Year in eight different sports.  To vote for Rebekah Parker for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, please visit www.seniorclassaward.com, or click on the button on the front page of www.gopurpleaces.com.

Parker and the Purple Aces (16-8 overall, 10-3 in the MVC) will conclude their current three-game road trip on Friday night, as UE will travel to Carbondale, Illinois to battle arch-rival Southern Illinois.  Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. and Friday’s game can be heard live on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV.
