Aces Travel To Georgia State

2/29/2008 2:25:00 PM

As many University of Evansville students depart for their spring break destinations, the UE softball team will be traveling to Atlanta, Ga. for the Georgia State Spring Showdown this weekend. The four-team tournament will include Evansville, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, and Western Carolina.

The Aces are coming off a third place finish at the Memphis Blues City Classic last weekend. The Aces finished with a 3-1 record, while Jacki Bradley and Kristen Shirk were voted to the all-tournament team.

Bradley is a dual threat for the Aces this season. The senior leads all hitters at the plate with a .375 average and carries a four-game hitting streak into the weekend. Defensively, she has two of the Aces’ biggest wins this season over Marshall and Southeast Missouri State.

Shirk is hitting .346 and leads the team with a .500 on base percentage. Sophomore Krista Price leads the Aces in hits (13), RBI (13), and runs scored (14). Laura Rather picked up her third home run of the season to make her career total at 18 and to put her in third place on UE’s all-time list.

The Aces’ first opponent will be host Georgia State on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m.
