MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The University of Evansville softball team picked up two wins against Middle Tennessee State Thursday in a doubleheader the Aces picked up earlier this week. The Aces picked up the win in the first game 8-3 and then was able to pull out a 5-3 win in the second game.

Game 1
The Aces were able to overcome five defensive blunders in the game to win the game 8-3. Coming in to Thursday’s game, the Aces had only committed ten errors all season.

The Aces scored six runs of their eight runs in the fifth inning. Lissa Fehlman led off the inning by reaching base on an error by the Blue Raiders’ third baseman. Krista Price followed with her second home run of the season. After consecutive singles by Kristen Shirk, Brittany Herald, and Jennifer Stahlhut to load the bases, Jacki Bradley drove in two runs with a single to left. Amanda Ockomon laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Stahlhut and Bradley. Cassey Kemna drove in a run with a ground out, and Laura Rather drove in the sixth run with a single through the left side.

Price, Shirk, and Herald led the Aces with two hits each. Herald also had a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Stahlhut, Bradley, Ockomon, Kemna, and Rather all contributed hits in the game.

Jennifer McKee picked her sixth win of the season in relief of Ashley Hobbs. McKee surrendered two runs on four hits in four innings. Hobbs gave up one run on three hits in the first three innings of the game.

Game 2
The Aces took advantage of two costly errors by the Blue Raiders in the fifth inning en route to a 5-3 victory.

The Aces jumped out to an early lead when Stahlhut hit a RBI single with two outs in the first inning.

With the bases loaded in the fifth inning, Stahlhut hit a ball that was mishandled by the second baseman and allowed Ockomon to score and tie the game at two runs apiece. Jacki Bradley then hit a ball to right field that got away from her and allowed three more Aces to score.

Herald led all hitters at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Ockomon had two hits in the game, and Stahlhut, Shirk, and Bradley had base hits for the Aces.

Bradley picked up the win in her third complete game of the season. The left-hander gave up three runs on eight hits while striking out three Blue Raiders.

The Aces (12-6) open up their home schedule and Missouri Valley play this weekend when Drake comes to town. The Aces and Bulldogs will begin the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon. The final game will be played Sunday with the first-pitch scheduled for noon.
