2008 Postseason WNIT Bracket

The University of Evansville women’s basketball team will host its first-ever post-season tournament game on Thursday night, as the Purple Aces will host the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks at the PAC Arena in Evansville in the first round of the 2008 Postseason WNIT.  Game time will be announced on Tuesday by the WNIT.

Tickets for Thursday’s Postseason WNIT game will be $6 for adults and $4 for youth (18 and under), seniors (65 and over) and UE students.  All tickets will be general admission, and tickets will be available beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning at the Carson Center Ticket Office on the UE campus, with the first 100 UE students and first 100 UE faculty and staff members who come to purchase tickets receiving free tickets courtesy of the UE athletics department.

Evansville will bring a 20-11 overall record into Thursday’s game.  The Purple Aces advanced to the Postseason WNIT by earning the Missouri Valley Conference’s automatic bid to the tournament after capturing a share of its first MVC regular-season title and the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament with a 13-5 Valley record.  Southeast Missouri State will bring a 23-8 record into Thursday’s game after winning the Ohio Valley Conference’s regular-season championship.  The Redhawks earned the OVC’s automatic bid into the Postseason WNIT after winning the regular-season title, but falling in the OVC semifinals to Eastern Illinois, 52-40.

Thursday’s game will mark UE’s first trip to the postseason since 2000, when the Purple Aces dropped a heartbreaking 84-81 overtime decision at Missouri in the 2000 Postseason WNIT.  Overall, it is UE’s third trip to the postseason, as the Purple Aces also advanced on to the 1999 NCAA Tournament as MVC Tournament champions.

Thursday’s game had to be moved to Evansville’s Westside and the University of Southern Indiana’s PAC Arena after a facility conflict with UE’s original home, Roberts Stadium, arose.  The PAC Arena is located on the USI campus and can be accessed by turning south on University Boulevard after exiting the Lloyd Expressway (Indiana-62).  The PAC Arena is located on the left-hand side of University Boulevard.

The winner of the UE-Southeast Missouri State game will advance on to play Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas on Monday.  Every UE game in the Postseason WNIT can be heard live on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV.
