One of the best in the Missouri Valley Conference will square off with the best the Ohio Valley Conference has to offer on Thursday night at the PAC Arena in Evansville, Indiana, as MVC regular-season co-champion Evansville will host OVC regular-season champion Southeast Missouri State in the first round of the 2008 Postseason WNIT.  Tip-off is set for 7:35 p.m.

Tickets for Thursday’s game are $6 for adults and $4 for youths (18 and under), students, and seniors.  The UE athletics department is strongly encouraging people to pre-purchase tickets at the UE Carson Center prior to 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, as there will be no credit card availability at the PAC Arena on Thursday night.  Tickets will be available at the PAC Arena on a cash-only basis beginning at 6:00 p.m., however, tickets can be purchased with credit card at the Carson Center ticket office up until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Evansville will bring a 20-11 overall record into Thursday’s game as co-champions of the MVC.  UE will be making its first post-season appearance since the 2000 Postseason WNIT, and just the third post-season appearance in school history on Thursday.  The Purple Aces are led by first team all-MVC senior guard Rebekah Parker (14.4 ppg, 5.8 rpg), second team all-Valley center Shannon Novosel (11.0 ppg, 6.1 rpg) and honorable mention all-MVC guard Courtney Felke (10.3 ppg).

Southeast Missouri State will bring a 23-8 overall record into Thursday’s game as regular-season champions of the OVC.  The Redhawks feature first team all-OVC senior center Missy Whitney (14.3 ppg, 7.2 rpg) and second team all-OVC guard Tarina Nixon (9.7 ppg, 2.8 apg, 2.0 spg).  Junior guard Sonya Daugherty also averages double-figures at 12.2 points per game this year for Southeast Missouri.

Thursday’s game will be the first meeting between UE and SEMO in the sport of women’s basketball since the 1993-94 season.  Overall, Southeast Missouri State leads the all-time series, 4-2, although Evansville holds a 2-1 series edge in games played in Evansville.  Thursday’s game can be heard live in the Tri-State area on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV.
