Aces Defeat Western Carolina To Finish Third At Spring Showdown

PANTHERSVILLE, Ga.--The University of Evansville softball team finished with a 2-2 record at the Georgia State Spring Showdown this weekend. The Aces were able to defeat Western Carolina twice Sunday to finish in third place at the tournament.
 
Game 1
The Aces scored two runs in the fourth inning and four in the fifth inning to take a 6-3 victory over the Catamounts.
 
Jacki Bradley picked up the win for the Aces going six innings and striking out five. The senior held the Catamounts to four hits in the game. Ashley Hobbs pitched an inning in relief giving up a hit and striking out a batter.
 
Hobbs helped the Aces at the plate with an RBI double in the fifth inning. Bradley also had an RBI hit in two at bats. Brittany Herald and Krista Price led the Aces with two hits each. Herald also had two RBI in the game. Kristen Shirk, Jennifer Stahlhut, Sophia Galati, and Amanda Ockomon also contributed hits for the Aces.
 
Game 2
The Aces started the game with three runs in the first inning and finished with three more runs in the sixth inning en route to a 6-3 win against Western Carolina in the second game of the day.
 
The Catamounts out-hit the Aces 10-5, but the Aces were able to take advantage of four defensive errors in the game to score runs. Herald had two hits in the game and drove in two of the Aces’ six runs. Jennifer Stahlhut went 1-for-2 with an RBI double in the game. Shirk was hit twice in the game bringing her season total to five.
 
Jennifer McKee picked up her fifth win for the Aces this season. The sophomore went 4.2 innings giving up two earned runs on seven hits. Hobbs pitched 2.1 innings of relief surrendering one run on three hits.
 
The Aces will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Austin Peay for a make-up doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
