OMAHA, Neb.—The University of Evansville softball team dropped two games to Creighton in Sunday’s doubleheader in Omaha, Neb. The three-game series was shortened to a doubleheader due to inclement weather.
Game 1
The Aces were only able to get two hits off of the number two team in the Missouri Valley Conference in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader. The Aces dropped the game, 6-1, to the Bluejays.
The Bluejays got on the board first, scoring four runs on five hits in the bottom of the second inning.
The Aces picked up their one run in the fourth inning when Amanda Ockomon walked in a run to score Jacki Bradley.
Brittany Herald had both of the Aces’ hits with base hits in the first and fourth innings.
The Bluejays tagged Jacki Bradley for six runs on ten hits. Tara Oltman got her 20th win of the season, going seven innings and giving up just one run on two hits.
Game 2
The Aces came up short in extra innings in the second game, falling 4-3 to the Bluejays in nine innings.
The Aces scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning off of Tara Oltman. Krista Price hit her fifth home run of the season for the Aces’ first run of the game. After singles by Bradley and Laura Rather, Ockomon drove in Bradley with a single to center field while Rather scored on a throwing error.
Renae Sinkler drove in the winning run for the Blujays in the ninth with an RBI single to score Jessi Jadlowski.
Rather led the Aces’ offense with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate and a run scored. Kristen Shirk, Bradley, Ockomon, and Stahlhut all had base hits for the Aces.
Tara Oltman got her second win of the day, pitching 5.2 scoreless innings while giving up four hits.
Ashley Hobbs took the loss for the Aces. The junior pitched the complete game, giving up three runs on nine hits.
The Aces (18-15, 4-7) will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Southern Illinois for a doubleheader at 5 p.m.
