EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Evansville softball team pulled out a 3-2 win over Missouri State at Cooper Stadium after a five-hour rain delay thanks to a walk-off home run by Krista Price, her fifth of the season.
The game was primarily a pitching duel between Jacki Bradley and Missouri State’s Melissa Porche. Bradley picked up the win for the Aces, going all seven innings and giving up just two runs on five hits while striking out six Bears’ hitters. Porche took the loss, giving up three runs on eight hits.
The Aces took an early lead in the bottom half of the third inning off of a RBI single from Brittany Herald that scored Price.
Missouri State would tie the game at one apiece in the fifth inning with an RBI double from Jana Shewmaker that scored Brooke Kempker.
Evansville would take the lead momentarily in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a solo home run by freshman Jennifer Stahlhut for her fourth of the year.
Missouri State rallied back in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 2-2. Kempker led off with a double to center and would come around to score on a RBI single by Jenna Schwark.
Price came to bat with one out and delivered the home run in the bottom half of the inning to left centerfield that hit off the scoreboard to win the game for the Aces.
Brittany Herald was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Stahlhut was 2-for-3 on the day with and RBI. Price had two hits and scored two of the Aces’ three runs. Jacki Bradley also had a base hit for the Aces in the game.
The Aces (20-16, 6-9) will conclude the three-game series with Missouri State on Sunday with a doubleheader at noon at Cooper Stadium.
