The University of Evansville softball team will travel to Peoria, Ill. for a three-game series at Bradley this weekend at Laura Bradley Park.
The Aces are holding on to eighth place for the final spot in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament with six MVC games remaining this season. After this weekend’s series at Bradley, the Aces will return home to host Indiana State for the final games of the season.
The Aces (20-18, 6-11) are coming off a weekend series against Missouri State in which the Bears took two out of three games at Cooper Stadium. Krista Price was the hero in the first game of the series, knocking a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 victory. Jacki Bradley went the distance in the circle, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out six.
The Bears scored two unearned runs in the second game en route to a 4-1 win. The Aces committed five errors in the game. Ashley Hobbs pitched well, giving up just two earned runs on four hits. Kristen Shirk drove in the only run of the game with an RBI single in the fifth inning.
The Aces led for the majority of the third game, but the Bears rallied four three runs in the seventh inning to push the game into extras before taking a 5-3 win over the Aces. The Aces out-hit the Bears 10-8, but timely hits resulted in a Bears’ victory. Brittany Herald was 3-for-3 in the game and was 7-for-9 during the series to boost her league-leading average from .402 to .442.
The Braves (11-22, 3-14) were swept by Drake last weekend in Des Moines, Iowa. Drake shut out the Braves in two games during the series. Bradley had a doubleheader cancelled on Tuesday at Western Illinois. Bradley is led by Alycia Bachkora, who is hitting .313 with three home runs.
The Aces and Braves will kick off the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at Laura Bradley Park and conclude with a single-game on Sunday. First-pitch for both days is scheduled for noon.
