Aces Split Doubleheader At Bradley Saturday

PEORIA, Ill.—The University of Evansville softball team split its doubleheader at Bradley on Saturday at Laura Bradley Park. Bradley shut out the Aces 1-0 in the first game, but the Aces battled back for eight runs in the second game to win 8-5.
 
Game 1
In game one, Bradley’s Ashley Birdsong tossed a one-hit shutout in the Aces’ 1-0 loss.
 
Jacki Bradley and Birdsong were engaged in a pitcher’s duel for most of the game. Bradley allowed one run on five hits and struck out four hitters in the loss. Birdsong took the victory allowing one hit and struck out five.
 
Jamie Lindauer had the Aces’ lone hit with a single in the second inning.
 
Trish Kowalewski accounted for the only run in the game with a solo home run in the fifth inning.
 
Game 2
The Aces broke out with ten hits in the nightcap to take an 8-5 win over the Braves. Birdsong lasted just three innings in the second game, giving up four runs on six hits.
 
The Aces got on the board first in the third inning thanks to a two-run home run off the bat of Krista Price for her seventh of the season.
 
The Braves answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double from Janay Mitchell.
 
Bradley would take a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning with a two-run home run from Jacqueline Vitale.
 
The Aces big inning would come in the fifth inning with three runs. Jamie Lindauer led off the inning with a double, and Brittany Herald advanced Lindauer to third with a fielding error by the first baseman. Price would reach on a fielder’s choice that put our Lindauer at third. Amanda Ockomon loaded the bases with a single to right field. With two outs and the bases loaded, Bradley knocked in three with a double to right center. Bradley is now 6-for-6 with 13 RBI this season with the bases loaded.
 
Bradley would get one run in the sixth on an RBI double by Vitale, but the Aces would pull away with three more runs in the seventh for the win. Herald led off the inning with her ninth home run of the season to give the Aces a 6-5 lead. Lissa Fehlman drove in the final two runs of the game with a two-run single to score Ockomon and Price.
 
Jennifer McKee picked up her ninth win of the season, going six innings and giving up five runs on nine hits and struck out five. Ashley Hobbs picked up her second save of the season, pitching an inning in relief and giving up a hit.
 
Amanda Ockomon led the Aces at the plate with three singles in the game. Sophia Galati and Laura Rather had base hits in the Aces’ win.
 
The Aces (21-19, 7-12) and Braves will conclude the series with a single-game on Sunday at noon at Laura Bradley Park.
