EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Evansville softball team will wrap up its regular season hosting Missouri Valley opponent Indiana State in a three-game series at Cooper Stadium this weekend. The team will also recognize seniors Jacki Bradley, Brittany Herald, Cassey Kemna, and Laura Rather for their success and contributions to Evansville softball over the last four years.

The Aces bring a 22-20 record into the weekend having taken two out of three at Bradley last weekend before dropping their midweek game at Louisville. The Aces dropped the first game, 1-0, behind the solid pitching of Jacki Bradley, but the Aces rallied in the nightcap for eight runs to take an 8-5 win over the Braves. In the final game of the series, the Aces shut out Bradley, 5-0, to take the series win. The Cardinals rallied for two runs in the seventh to edge the Aces 5-4 in Tuesday’s game. Senior Laura Rather led the Aces with two hits and an RBI while Brittany Herald also drove in two runs in the game.

The conference-leading Creighton Bluejays swept the Sycamores last weekend in Omaha. MVC Pitcher of the Week, Tara Oltman, dominated the Sycamores, allowing just six hits in the two games she pitched. Meredith Simpson, who is hitting .366 with ten home runs and 28 RBI, leads the Sycamores.

Several Aces will be chasing history in this final weekend of the season. Senior Brittany Herald is just one home run shy of tying the career home run record of 23. She is also on pace to set the new school record for batting average, slugging percentage, and on base percentage, both for a single season and for her career. Herald will finish her career in the top five in RBI’s, total bases, walks, and putouts. Senior Laura Rather will also finish in the top five for career home runs. Cassey Kemna recently broke the career records for sacrifice bunts and sacrifice flies in her senior campaign. Junior Kristen Shirk has been hit 25 times in her three years, which is the most for a career at UE.

The Aces (22-20, 8-12) and Sycamores (19-26-1, 7-13) will square off on Saturday in a doubleheader at noon and conclude the three-game set with a single-game on Sunday at noon. All three games can be heard live on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV.
