Homecoming 2008 at the University of Evansville just got a little busier. The Missouri Valley Conference announced today that UE has been chosen to host the State Farm MVC Men’s Soccer Championship at Arad McCutchan Stadium November 12, 14, and 16. Homecoming at UE this year takes place Nov. 14-16. This is the second time that the University of Evansville has hosted the MVC men’s tourney. The first was in 1997. UE also hosted the 2007 MVC women’s soccer championship last November. “This is a great opportunity for the city of Evansville, the University, and for Aces’ soccer,” UE head coach Mike Jacobs said. “We are proud to have the chance to host the Missouri Valley Conference championship.” Added Director of Athletics John Stanley, “We are very excited that the MVC has chosen the University of Evansville. MVC soccer is excellent and so is our team, which no doubt will make this a showcase event for the city, local soccer fans, and our school.” For a fourth straight season, all six tournament teams will play at one site. The top two seeds receive a bye in the first round on Wednesday, November 12. The semifinals are Friday, November 14, and the championship is Sunday, November 16. Fox Sports Net has televised the men’s soccer championship in the past. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. Bradley and Creighton represented The Valley in the 2007 NCAA Tournament. Bradley won the league's automatic berth with a 1-0 victory over Creighton in the finals and reached the Elite 8 in the NCAA tourney. Creighton received an at-large berth. The host school, Evansville, has eight starters returning from a team that finished among the national leaders in scoring and finished third in the MVC last season behind Creighton and Bradley.
