The Aces have more to cheer about today, thanks to College Soccer News' list of the top recruiting classes.

Aces' Recruiting Class Ranked #23 Nationally

7/31/2008 4:21:37 PM

The University of Evansville men's soccer team has the 23rd best incoming class of players in the nation, according to a poll announced today by College Soccer News. The complete list can be found at collegesoccernews.com.

Coach Mike Jacobs will have 11 freshmen joining 15 veterans when pre-season practice begins in less than two weeks. Goalkeeper Phil Boerger was chosen in June for the Parade High School All-America Team, and Boerger and midfielder Mitch Day were picked as 'Top 100 Freshmen To Watch' by College Soccer News earlier this month. In addition, midfielder/forward Richard Menjivar was chosen recently to play for the U.S. U-18 National Team in a four-match series against Uruguay and Paraguay beginning today.

"This incoming class is made up of players who fit our foundation and framework of our program," said Jacobs. "You have versatile players who can contribute in a number of roles, players who have been leaders among their peers, and players who come from programs that have had a lot of success. Winning is habitual, and this class is made up of players who expect to be successful. That fits the makeup of University of Evansville Purple Aces soccer."

The Aces report to campus August 11 and begin practice August 13. Their first match is a friendly at the University of Louisville August 16. A fan bus will be provided to the Louisville match.
