The University of Evansville women’s basketball team will try to slow down one of the nation’s top three-point shooting attacks on Saturday, as the Creighton University Bluejays will come to town for a Missouri Valley Conference contest.  Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. and Saturday’s game can be heard live on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV.

Evansville will be trying to bounce back from a heartbreaking 62-61 loss suffered on Thursday night against Drake.  UE was able to cut a 13-point second half deficit back to just one point with under a minute to go, but the Purple Aces could not find the missing piece of the puzzle offensively, as the Bulldogs held on for victory.  It spoiled a valiant effort by UE seniors Shannon Novosel, Robyn Jennings and Ashley Austin, who combined for 20 of UE’s final 22 points during the second half rally.

Now, the Purple Aces, 8-7 overall and 1-3 in the MVC, will meet a Creighton squad which will ride a three-game winning streak into Saturday’s contest.  The Bluejays, 8-8 overall and 3-2 in the Valley, won their third straight on Thursday night, knocking off Southern Illinois, 55-43, on the strength of 6-of-9 shooting from three-point range.

Creighton enters Saturday’s contest ranked fourth nationally in three-point field goal accuracy at 39.8 percent, while also ranking 18th in three-point field goals per game at 7.3 per contest.  Guards Chevelle Herring (14.9 ppg) and Kelsey Woodard (13.5 ppg), along with forward Megan Neuvirth (12.2 ppg) have done the most damage from beyond the arc for the Bluejays, as the trio has combined for 103 of Creighton’s 117 three-point makes on the season.

Creighton leads the all-time series over Evansville, 22-9, although the two teams have split the last six series meetings over the last three years.  Saturday’s game can not only be heard on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV, but live video streaming is also available on-line at www.gopurpleaces.com.
