Swimming And Diving Falls At WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.—The University of Evansville swimming and diving team dropped their opening meet of 2009 at Western Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.
 
Christina Schmidgall led the way for the UE women. The sophomore had three of the Aces’ top finishes with a win in the 500 free, a second place finish in the 1000 free, and a fifth place finish in the 100 breast. Hannah Quast had two top finishes placing second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free. Murphy Barry had a win in the 400 IM and a fifth place finish in the 200 free. Alexandra Howard finished second in the 200 back and third in the 100 back. Kassandra Beseau had the Aces only other win in the 100 fly. On the diving board, Ashley Altmeyer placed third in the one and three meter diving events with scores of 195.67 and 188.17, respectively.
 
For the men, the Aces had five individual victories. James Nash took the win in the 100 back, Bryan Hamann finished first in the 500 free, Brian Gray won the 100 fly, and Josh Fletcher took first in both the one and three meter dives. Nash also had two other top finishes with a second in the 100 free and a third in the 50 free. Jacob Harrington had three second place finishes in the meet in the 1000 free, 200 back, and 400 IM.
 
The Aces’ men will have their final home meet next Saturday when they host Indiana at noon at Wyttenbach Pool.
