EVANSVILLE, Ind.—A first-half run swung momentum to the visiting Missouri State University Lady Bears on Thursday night, and the host University of Evansville women’s basketball team could never recover, as the Lady Bears posted a 76-63 victory in Missouri Valley Conference action at Roberts Stadium.

With the Purple Aces holding a 13-9 lead with 13:55 to play in the first half, Missouri State exploded for a 19-3 run over the next 10 minutes to take control of the contest. MSU senior forward Maggie Dwyer scored seven of her 10-point, 10-rebound double-double to fuel the run and help the Lady Bears grab a 28-16 cushion with 4:13 left before the half.

Evansville would trim the deficit back to five points in the first half, before the Lady Bears would take a seven-point lead into the halftime locker room, 32-25. Evansville would get no closer than seven points during the second half, as Missouri State freshman guard Jaleshia Roberson scored 16 of her career-high 19 points in the second half to help keep the Purple Aces at bay.

The loss overshadowed a career effort by UE senior guard Ashley Austin, who led all scorers with a career-high 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor, including 2-of-3 shooting from three-point range. Rookie guard Jordan Lewis, who had just four points in 21 total minutes entering Thursday’s contest, joined Austin in double-figures with 10 points in 19 minutes of action.

Roberson and fellow rookie Casey Garrison paced the Lady Bears with 19 points each, while Garrison added 10 rebounds for her second-straight double-double. Dwyer also added 10 points and 10 boards, as the Lady Bears shot 48.0 percent from the floor in earning their first road win of the season.

With the victory, Missouri State improves to 6-13 overall and 2-6 in the Valley. Evansville, meanwhile, slips to 8-11 overall and 1-7 in the MVC. The Purple Aces will return to action next on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. as the Wichita State Shockers (10-9, 2-6 in the MVC) will come to town. Saturday’s game can be heard live on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV.
