After an 11-day break since the last meet, the University of Evansville swimming and diving team jump back into the pool this weekend with the women competing at the Illinois State Triangular on Friday and both teams at Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
The women compete in Normal, Illinois, on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
“Hopefully tomorrow will be a good day for the women,” said Evansville head coach
Rickey Perkins. “Everyone is tired and beaten up a little bit, but it will be good to compete against Illinois State, who is a good team in our conference, and Iowa State, who is in the Big 12 and who we don’t get to see. It will be nice to compete against someone we don’t know, and I hope we get up and race and compete with out hearts.”
The women’s team looks to continue the success that they have had early in the season. In the team’s last meet at the Indiana Intercollegiate, freshman
Sadie Wells took third in the 3-meter dive while freshman
Jill Enge and junior
Christina Schmidgall finished fourth in the 200 IM and 100 free, respectively. In the 100 back, junior
Diane Threlkeld placed fourth followed by
Alex Howard in fifth.
On Saturday, both teams reunite to participate in a dual meet with Eastern Illinois in Charleston, Illinois.
“It’s a big meet on Saturday, especially for the men,” Perkins said. “We have been neck-to-neck with Eastern Illinois, and last year we beat them for the first time in a while. Hopefully our men will be excited about that. We can’t fall asleep on them. They are going to be a lot better than what they were last year because they have brought a lot of new people in and are going to be ready for us.
“This is Eastern Illinois’ first meet, so I’m sure they are excited about that. It’s their pool, so they are going to know it better. But we don’t need to overlook them. We just need to get in there and compete and show up to race.”
At the Indiana Intercollegiate, freshman
Alex Seward placed second in the 100 fly and fifth in the 200 free while senior
Josh Fletcher finished third in the 3-meter board. Sophomore
Colin Gray took fifth in the 100 breast. The 200-medley relay team took fourth while the 200-free relay finished fifth in the event.
