CHARLESTON, Ill.--The University of Evansville swimming and diving team competed at Eastern Illinois on Saturday where the women beat the Panthers 162-100 and the men fell 153-109 in Charleston, Illinois.
“Both teams started out a little slow, but did get better during the race,” said Evansville head coach Rickey Perkins. “I’m happy with the way we raced and showed up to compete. Naturally we are disappointed with the loss, but we will just go back to the pool and see where we are going.”
On the women’s side, the Aces posted 10 first place finishes. Sophomore Hannah Quast took two top times in the 100 and 200 free while also finishing second in the 50 free. Sophomore Alex Howard placed first in the 100 and 200 back. Freshman Jill Enge took first in the 100 breast and second in the 200 breast. Freshman Michea Reinitz placed first in the 100 and 200 fly. Sophomore Alex Spata placed first in the 400 IM with sophomore Murphy Barry following in second. Junior Christina Schmidgall finished first in the 500 free and second in the 200 free.
The 200 medley relay teams came in second and third while the 400 free relay teams finished first and third.
The men’s team also collected seven first-place finishes of its own against EIU. Sophomore Brandon Long placed first in the 1000 free and followed by sophomore Bryan Hamann in third. Junior Chris Nash had a top time in the 100 back with junior Wil Fernandez finishing third. Freshman Alex Seward had top finishes in the 100 and 200 fly and a third place ranking in the 100 free. Sophomore Jake Harrington took first in the 200 back and 400 IM while freshman Kyle Tiemann had a first place finish in the 500 free.
The men’s 400 free relay also took second in the meet.
UE’s next competition will be November 1 at the IUPUI Invite in Indianapolis.
