ST. LOUIS—The University of Evansville swimming and diving team had stellar performances at the Washington University Invite over Saturday and Sunday, as the women’s team took first out of nine teams and the men’s team took third out of eight.

“We just had strong swims throughout the whole meet,” said Evansville head coach Rickey Perkins. “We did a great job. The girls won a majority of their events except for four, so I’m really happy with the girls and how they performed and stepped up. The guys started slow, but progressively got better. They got the win in the 200 free relay at the end of the meet, so that was exciting. I was glad to see that there was still gas in the tank at the end.”

The women’s team finished the meet with 13 first-place finishes in swimming events. Michea Reinitz took three top times in the 50 free and 100 and 200 fly. Alex Howard finished first in the 100 and 200 back. Christina Schmidgall placed first in the 200 and 500 free. Hannah Quast took first in the 100 free while Phoebe Hodina took the top spot in the 400 IM. The team also finished first in the relays for 200 and 400 free and 200 and 400 medley.

On the men’s side, Alex Seward placed second in the 100 fly and fourth in the 200 fly. Jake Harrington took third in the 500 free. The 400 medley relay team took second while the 200 medley finished third.

The Aces also had success on the boards, as Josh Fletcher placed first on the three meter and fourth on the one meter. Jennifer Childers took second on the one-meter boards while Sadie Wells placed third on the three meter.

The Aces have completed their schedule for 2009 and will take a break until their next meet on January 10, 2010, at St. Louis University.
