SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Jordan Hoffman's header late in the match Wednesday afternoon produced not only a goal, but a Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer championship for the Missouri State Bears. 

Hoffman scored at 81:20 off of teammate Johannes Demarzi's corner kick as the Bears (12-3-2, 7-1-1) edged the University of Evansville (10-7-1, 4-4-1) by a 1-0 count. The victory was the seventh in a row by the Bears, and clinched Missouri State's first MVC regular season championship since 1999. The Aces close out the regular season with Senior Day Saturday at Black Beauty Field at 4:30 against Bradley. 

Evansville has already qualified for the four-team State Farm MVC Tournament at Des Moines, Iowa November 13 and 15, with an NCAA Tournament berth on the line for the tourney champion. UE could still end up as high as third in the league behind Missouri State and Drake. 

The Bears finished with seven shots Wednesday, including three on goal against UE goalkeeper Phil Boerger. The Aces had six shots, with one on goal by defender Aaron Henkle that was saved by Missouri State keeper Alex Riggs.
