University of Evansville basketball player Kavon Lacey will be out approximately four weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery this afternoon. Team physician Dr. Andrew Saltzman performed the procedure to repair a small tear in the meniscus in Lacey's left knee. Dr. Saltzman also performed reconstructive surgery on Lacey's left knee in May following an injury in April in which he suffered a torn ligament and torn meniscus.
Lacey felt pain in the knee two weeks ago, and it increased during practice earlier this week. The 4-3 Purple Aces have not played since last Tuesday's game at Western Kentucky. They return to action Thursday at home against Georgia Southern University. Lacey was a starting guard in all seven games, and is averaging 5.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and a team-high 3.3 assists.
"Kavon is an important player for us, and fortunately this is just a minor setback," said Coach Marty Simmons. "He should be back to normal in a few weeks, and we look forward to having him back out there."
