Freshman women’s basketball player Kaylan Martin (Pflugerville, Texas/Pflugerville) has been named this week’s Vectren Student-Athlete of the Week at the University of Evansville.

Martin was instrumental in the Purple Aces’ 76-69 victory over Saint Louis on Sunday, as she posted a season-high 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists in the victory.  Her three-pointer from the top-of-the-key with 1:30 to play and Evansville clinging to a three-point lead helped ignite a late 10-2 run by the Purple Aces which helped UE pull away from Saint Louis for its first victory of the year.

Martin also scored a team-high nine points on Wednesday night at Butler, and averaged a team-best 10.5 points per game this week, to go along with averages of 3.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game.  On the season, Martin ranks third on the team in scoring this year at 7.7 points per game, while leading the squad in assists with 2.6 assists per game.

Martin and the Purple Aces will go in search of their first winning streak of the 2009-10 season tonight, as UE will travel to Nashville, Tennessee to battle Lipscomb at 7:00 p.m.
