You can watch Tuesday's game live on AcesTV, or listen on the Aces Basketball / Old National Bank Radio Network.
THE TOP 10 THINGS TO KNOW...UE AT CREIGHTON FEB. 17
1. Creighton was already the first in Missouri Valley Conference history to win 20 games or more for 10 straight seasons, and now Dana Altman’s 21-6 squad has done it for the 11th straight year. At 11-4 in the MVC and winners of six in a row, the Jays are just one game behind first place Northern Iowa.
2. Creighton leads the series against UE 20-9 after beating the Aces 79-57 at Roberts Stadium on Jan. 20. It was the second biggest margin of defeat for Evansville this season, topped only by Illinois State’s 30-point win at Normal in December. The Aces have lost nine in a row at Omaha since beating the Bluejays in 1998-99 on their way to winning the MVC regular season title.
3. In the win at Evansville, Creighton hit 10 of 18 three-pointers while Evansville hit only 1 of 12. The Bluejays shot 56 percent overall compared to the Aces’ 40 percent. Shy Ely was the only Evansville player in double figures, with 26 points. Kenny Lawson led the Bluejays with 16 and Justin Carter added 14.
4. The fifth place Aces are 7-3 against the five teams that they lead or are tied with in the MVC standings, and 0-5 against the four teams ahead of them. UE’s final three league games are against second place Creighton, fourth place Bradley and first place Northern Iowa.
5. Following Tuesday’s game, the Aces play their final two home games– Saturday against Miami of Ohio at 2:30 in the ESPNU BracketBusters contest, and Wednesday, Feb. 25 against Bradley on Senior Night at 7:05.
6. Freshman Kaylon Williams is the first UE player since Lucious Wagner in 2005 to surpass 100 points, 100 rebounds and 100 assists in the same season. Williams ranks second in the league in assists and fourth in steals.
7. MVC scoring leader Shy Ely scored 20 points or more for the 10th time this season with 20 on Saturday at Bradley. Ely’s 17.7 scoring average is the highest for an Evansville player this late in the season since MVC?Player of the Year Marcus Wilson averaged 20.7 in 1999.
8. The Aces have been stuck on 15 total wins and seven MVC wins since beating Wichita State Jan. 7. The 16th win would be special because it assures UE of its first winning season since 2000 and would give the Aces their most league victories since the 2003 team ended up 8-10.
9. Here’s where the top two active scorers in the MVC (Shy Ely and Jason Holsinger) stand on the UE career chart: Holsinger is number 15 with 1,349 points (only 12 players in UE history have scored 1,400 points). Ely is 23rd with 1,279.
10. UE players in the MVC top five: Shy Ely #1 in scoring (17.7), #2 in minutes played (34.3), #3 in defensive rebounds (4.9); Kaylon Williams #2 in assists (4.6), #4 in steals (1.6), #4 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8); Nate Garner #4 in FG percentage (.523), #5 in offensive rebounds (2.3).
