Aces Cruise To Two Shutouts Over Virginia Tech

PANTHERSVILLE, Ga.—The University of Evansville softball team took advantage of a two six-run innings to cruise to 9-0 and an 8-0 shutouts of Virginia Tech in five innings on Sunday at the Georgia State First Pitch Classic.
 
Krista Price put the Aces on the board by leading off the game with a home run to left field. The Aces went up 2-0 with a fielder’s choice by freshman Amy Gaertner to score Kylie Wagner.
 
The Aces got the scoring started in the second inning on consecutive singles by Wagner, Amanda Ockomon, and Lissa Fehlman. Fehlman scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch to put the team up 8-0.
 
Price put the game away with a RBI double in the fifth inning to score Kelci Alsip.
 
Freshman Kylie Wagner picked up her first win of the season, pitching the complete game and giving up six hits while striking out three.
 
Price paced the offense with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate with a double, home run, two runs scored, and two RBI. Wagner was a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. Seniors Ockomon and Fehlman were each 2-for-3 at the plate with a combined three RBI. Kristen Shirk and Alsip also had base hits in the game.

The Aces took a 2-0 lead in the third inning thanks to back-to-back triples by Price and Shirk before putting up six runs in the fourth to secure the win.
 
Gaertner drove in two runs with a single in the sixth to bring the lead to 4-0. Three runs came across the plate with a Price single and an error by the Hokies. Shirk drove in Price with a single for the final run of the game.
 
Price and Shirk were both 2-for-3 at the plate. Price had two runs scored and a RBI while Shirk contributed two RBI. Junior Jamie Lindauer was 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Jennifer Stahlhut, Ockomon, and Gaertner were all credited with base hits in the win.
 
Jennifer McKee got the win in the circle, pitching the entire game and giving up six hits while striking out three batters.

The Aces (2-2) will return to action at the Mississippi State Bulldog Classic in Starkville, Mississippi next weekend. The team’s first opponent will be SIU-Edwardsville at 1 p.m. on Friday.
