Lady Aces Go For Season Sweep Of Shockers Sunday

WICHITA, Kan.—The University of Evansville women’s basketball team will try to snap its current two-game losing streak and pick up a season series sweep of the Wichita State Shockers on Sunday afternoon, as the Purple Aces will travel west to Wichita, Kansas for a 2:05 p.m. Missouri Valley Conference contest. Sunday’s game can be heard live on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV.

Evansville will bring a 10-17 overall record and 3-13 MVC mark into Sunday’s contest. The Purple Aces suffered their second loss in a row Friday night, as the Missouri State Lady Bears used a 15-3 run four minutes into the second half to take control of the contest and post an 80-67 victory over UE. The loss overshadowed another strong performance by UE senior guard Ashley Austin, who posted a 17-point, 11-rebound, six-assist double-double. Austin has stepped up over the last three games to average 21.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for UE, and leads the Purple Aces in scoring on the season at 12.8 points per game.

Wichita State will bring an 11-15 overall record and 3-12 Valley mark into Sunday’s contest. The Shockers snapped a seven-game losing streak on Friday night with a 73-64 victory over Southern Illinois. Junior guard Marisah Henderson recorded a 16-point, 10-assist double-double to lead a balanced attack, as four different Shockers reached double-figures in the win. Overall, senior forward Marcy Sudbeck leads Wichita State with averages of 13.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.

Evansville leads the all-time series over Wichita State, 17-14, including a 64-49 victory over the Shockers in Evansville on January 31. Overall, the Purple Aces have won seven games in a row against Wichita State, and nine of the last 10 series meetings overall.
