University of Evansville senior Jason Holsinger (Lapel, Ind. / Lapel) has been chosen as a finalist for the Academic All-America Men's Basketball Team, in a vote by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Holsinger and the other four members of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Team now go on the national ballot later this month, along with the 35 players chosen from the other seven districts across the nation.
Two Evansville players have been chosen in the past for the Academic All-America Team: Scott Haffner in 1988 and 1989, and Clint Cuffle in 2003 and 2004.
Holsinger, an economics major with a 3.89 grade point average, joins seniors Bryan Mullins of Southern Illinois, Mike Schachtner of Wisconsin-Green Bay, David DuBois of Western Illinois and sophomore Matt Howard of Butler on the All-District V Team. It's the second year in a row for Holsinger to be chosen first team all-district. He is second in scoring (11.2) and second in assists (3.4) for the 14-8 Purple Aces. In addition, Holsinger is number one among active Missouri Valley Conference players in scoring (1,301), three-point field goals (259) and free throw percentage (.841). He is the 20th leading scorer in Aces' history.
