The University of Evansville women’s basketball team will do its part in the fight against breast cancer on Saturday, as the Purple Aces will host the Bradley University Braves at Roberts Stadium in the seventh annual Women’s Hoops For The Cure. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. and tickets are discounted to only $2.00.
The Women’s Hoops For The Cure is a collaborative partnership between the UE athletics department, UE women’s basketball team, and the Greater Evansville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure which is designed to help raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer. $1.00 from each ticket sold on Saturday will go to Susan G. Komen For The Cure to aid in breast cancer research. The first 750 fans in attendance will receive a free pink hat, and there will be hot dogs, popcorn, and Pepsi products available for only a $1.00.
Komen will also be selling commemorative t-shirts for $5.00 at the event, and there will be a Chinese Auction of such items as an autographed Jamey Carroll baseball, an autographed basketball by Jerry Sloan, ticket packages to Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari, an overnight stay for two at Casino Aztar, and a registration and duffle bag for the 2009 Komen Greater Evansville Race For The Cure. All proceeds from both the t-shirt sales and Chinese Auction will go directly to Susan G. Komen For The Cure to assist in breast cancer research. The event has helped to raise over $25,000 for breast cancer research over the years, with a majority of the money raised remaining in the Tri-State area.
“I really hope that the people of the Tri-State area will come out to support such a great cause,” said UE head coach Misty Murphy. “The Komen Foundation does so much to help those people in the Tri-State area and the country who are affected by breast cancer, and we are so proud to be able to partner with them for the Hoops For The Cure.”
Fans who purchase a $2.00 ticket to the Hoops For The?Cure before halftime can redeem their tickets for free tickets to the UE men’s game against Wichita State, scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
