EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Evansville softball team opened up Missouri Valley Conference play at Cooper Stadium on Saturday. The Aces were on the short end of two losses to the visiting Creighton Bluejays as the Bluejays edged the Aces 1-0 in the first game and took a 10-1 win in the second game.
Game 1
Despite a strong pitching performance by junior Jennifer McKee, the Aces came up short in a 1-0 loss to the Bluejays. McKee took the loss, giving up six hits and one run with three strike outs in the complete game. Two-time MVC Pitcher of the Year Tara Oltman took the win giving up three hits with seven strikeouts in the complete game shutout.
Laura Kratochvil had the winning RBI to drive in Michelle Koch in the third inning.
The middle of the Aces’ lineup had the Aces’ three hits in the game. Kristen Shirk, Jennifer Stahlhut, and Amanda Ockomon all had base hits in the loss.
Game 2
Home runs by Bailey Dawson and Kratochvil helped Creighton to a 10-1 win in the second game.
Dawson led off the game with a home run to give the Bluejays a quick 1-0 lead. They would extend the lead to two runs as Koch was able to score.
The Bluejays put up two more runs in the top of the third inning on a single by Michelle Grander that plated Renae Sinkler and Dawson.
The Aces got their lone run in the fourth inning. Lissa Fehlman reached first base on a two out single. Lindauer followed with a walk, and freshman Ashleigh Rahming drove in Fehlman with a single through the right side.
The Bluejays put up one in the fifth on a Kratochvil home run and put five runs on the board in the seventh inning on three hits and an error.
Rahming led the team with a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate. Krista Price had a double while Stahlhut, and Fehlman accounted for the other three hits for the team.
Kylie Hovinga took the win for the Bluejays, giving up one run on five hits in the complete game. Annie Vincelett took the loss after facing the first three batters of the game. McKee pitched the rest of the game and gave up six earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.
The Aces (4-11) and Bluejays (10-7) will meet in the finale of the three-game series tomorrow at noon at Cooper Stadium.
