Bulldogs Take Weekend Sweep Over Aces

DES MOINES, Iowa—The University of Evansville softball team scored three runs in the top of the first inning but could now hold on to the lead as the Drake Bulldogs completed a weekend sweep of the Aces with a 6-4 win on Sunday at Buel Field.

The Aces took a 3-0 lead in first with a two-run double by Lissa Fehlman to score Kristen Shirk and Jen Stahlhut. Fehlman scored the third run of the inning as Kylie Wagner was able to reach on an error by the second baseman.

Drake answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a hit and an error and a bases loaded walk.

Krista Price put the Aces up 4-3 with her third home run of the season, a solo shot to left field. Drake tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Carrie Hatfield and an RBI single by Kelsey Kahler to score two runs.

Drake broke the tie and took the lead with two winning runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBI hits by Elena Leon and Torey Craddock.

The Aces scattered eight hits in the game led by Stahlhut with a double and two singles. Fehlman had a hit and two RBI, while Shirk, Wagner, and Allison Aguilera had base hits.

Wagner took the loss pitching an inning of relief and giving up two runs one three hits. Jen McKee started the game and pitched five innings, giving up three runs on five hits with six walks and two strikeouts.

Jenna DeLong came in to pitch after five at bats in the first and pitched the rest of the game to take the win. She gave up just one run on five hits with eight strikeouts.

The Aces (5-16, 0-6) will host a makeup doubleheader with Southern Illinois on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and then will host Butler for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
